Names and Titles
Make sure that the spelling and the pronunciation of all the names are correct. When saying someone’s name that is unfamiliar you can say their title or explain why they are in the news or you can use delayed identification. For well know people you can either leave their first or second name out depending on how it sounds. When you use a name that isn’t well known makes sure to use their full when introducing them and later on refer to them by only their first name.
Example (good): The Vice Principle of Garden high school was charged with murder. Bruce Jones was charged with the murder of the schools janitor that took place in the school year of 2007.
Example (bad) : Bruce Jones was charged with murder. He is the Vice Principle of Garden high school anal was charged for the murder of the schools janitor.
Identification

Make sure that you use titles to distinguish one person from another. This way the audience can tell which person you are talking about because many people have the same name.
Example (good): “Elementary teacher Jeff Boris rescued baby from a burning house”
Example (bad): ‘’ Jeff Boris rescued baby from a burning house”
Addresses

When you can’t find the persons title give their address and you don’t have to give the full address. This way the person can keep their privacy.
Example (good): Jeff Boris of Saskatchewan Avenue is the new bank manager.
Example (bad): Jeff Boris of the world is the new bank manager.
Ages
If you have no other info about a person than you can use their name but never use it before a name or with just a last name. Sometimes you can use a person’s age in connection with a title but try not to use their name until the following sentence.
Example (good): Jeff Boris, who is 102-years- old. . . .
Example (bad): 102- year- old Boris. . . .
Attribution
Always state who’s saying what before you carry on with a sentence and just use said or says instead of trying to use more complicated words.
Example (good): Professor Josh Harley says that he can understand dogs barking.
Example (bad): “I can understand dogs barking” says professor Josh Harley.
